Hi -
My name is Scott Raymond, and for those of you who don't know me, I'm a
New Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is a 3700 watt non -
commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the greater Hudson
Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on for over 24 years and
has a large and devoted audience. The show airs every Sunday from 9AM to
12 noon EST. For more information or to listen in online, check out our
website at www.wvkr.org. I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting
music to play on my show. If you have something you think I'd be
interested in, feel free to send it to the address below or email me for
more info. If you're a local musician or just passing through the
beautiful Hudson Valley region and you'd like to stop by for a live
interview and/or performace, drop me a line and we'll work something out.
Also, if you'd like to send me downloads of your releases in lieu of
actual CD's, that's fine with me, too. Just send me an email and let me
know. Thanks.
The big news this month is that on June 17th, I celebrated the 25th
anniversary of Secret Music. It started on June 17, 1987 on a different day (Wednesday) with a
different title (Theme Of Secrets). If you'd told me then that I'd still
be doing this 25 years later, I wouldn't have believed you. It was meant
to be a fill in show for the summer. I'm still filling in. It's been a
wild ride so far. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but I'll enjoy it
while I can. Things have changed so much, but there's still lots of great
music out there to discover. More than the music though, it's the people
that keep things interesting. The musicians, the label people, and most of
all the listeners. Thanks to everyone for putting up with me and the
strange music I play.
There's a new service out called DAR.fm. which allows you to record
radio shows (like mine). The website has more info. but it's basically a free service much
like a Tivo, which allows you to select and record radio shows for future
listening. Finally something for those of you who aren't around to listen
in on a Sunday morning.
For more info or weekly playlists, check out my website below. I'm also
on Facebook, so look for me there too. Here's my top 20 playlist for April 2012. Enjoy!

Secret Music Playlist, June 17, 2012
Hi -
Here's my playlist for Sunday, June 17, 2012. Today was a special event
for me. 25 years ago on June 17, 1987, I started Secret Music at WVKR. Back then, it was on
Wednesday mornings and was called Theme Of Secrets. It's been a long time.
and I never figured I'd get to this point. More than just the music, it's
the people I've met along the way and the stories I have. Every one of
these pieces has a story behind it. As always, there are too many stories
and not enough time. I don't know if I'll be around for 25 more years, but
to get this far is pretty amazing. Thanks to everyone who called in and
thanks to everyone who's listened and supported the show along the way.

Secret Music 25th anniversary show
Hi -
My name is Scott Raymond, and you may remember me from such radio shows
as "Secret Music",. a New Age/Ambient/Electronic music show on WVKR-FM. WVKR is a
3700 watt non - commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the
greater Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on since
the dawn of time, when families would gather around the wireless for
entertainment. For reasons I have yet to fathom, people still listen. The
show airs every Sunday from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more information or to
listen in online, check out our website at www.wvkr.org.
On Sunday, June 17, 2012, I will celebrate the 25th anniversary of
Secret Music. It's quite a milestone, one I never thought I'd reach. It's been a long time, with a
lot of great music, interesting stories to tell and most of all, wonderful
people. I could say that the music has kept me going all this time, but
that's not true. It's the people that keep this interesting. The people
who make the music, the promoters who get it to my hands, and most of all,
the people who listen. I had all kinds of plans for this day, but other
things have taken precedence in my life. So here's my idea. Instead of
some grand plan, let's keep it simple. I'm going to play some interesting
music, both to honor some of the people I've met over the years, and to
share a few rarities from my vault. I'm going to share some stories from
over the years, secrets I rarely share with others. It'll probably get a
bit maudlin at times, but I figure I'm entitled. I hope you'll all listen
and perhaps call in with your memories and thoughts from the last 25
years. I'd love to hear from the people out there, listeners, musicians,
people whose lives I've impacted. The show is Sunday, June 17, 2012, from
9AM to 12 noon EST. The phone number is below. Thanks for all the music
and memories. If you have any ideas, requests, etc., email me and let me
know.

Upcoming concerts this summer
Hi -
Here's some links to upcoming concerts that might be of interest to the local Secret Music listeners.
The first one is a concert featuring pianist Hauschka. He's really Volker Bertelmann from Germany, who plays the prepared piano. A prepared piano has objects lodged between the piano strings to alter the sounds. He produces some interesting music with this technique. I've played his music in the past. Opening for him is local guitarist Alexander Turnquist, who has a new album coming out soon. They'll be appearing at Club Helsinki in Hudson, NY on Friday, June 22. More info can be found here:
http://helsinkihudson.com/schedule.html#120622
The next one is A Winged Victory For The Sullen. Great band name, great music. Very much in the chamber ambient music field like Stars Of The Lid (one of the members is Adam Wiltzie of Stars Of The Lid). I missed them last fall when the freak snowstorm hit in late October. I'd like to see them this time around. They're playing at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC on Saturday, July 7. Here's a link to more info:
http://www.awvfts.com/
After that is a concert with Niyaz. Niyaz is a world music group featuring singer Azam Ali, formerly of Vas. Their new album is really good. They're appearing at Drom in NYC on Sunday, July 22. Here's a link to more info:
http://www.niyazmusic.com/#!/tour-dates/
Last but not least is the return of Dead Can Dance. I saw their last tour in 2005 and it was a great show. They supposedly have a new album coming out, too. They're appearing Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30 at the Beacon Theater in NYC. Here's a link to more info:
