Secret Music News, end of 2012

Hi -

  My name is Scott Raymond, and for those of you who don't know me, I'm a
New Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is a 3700 watt
non-commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the greater
Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on for over 25
years and has a large and devoted audience. The show airs every Sunday
from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more information or to listen in online,
check out our website at www.wvkr.org. 

  I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting music to play on my
show. If you have something you think I'd be interested in, feel free to send it to the
address below or email me for more info. If you're a local musician or
just passing through the beautiful Hudson Valley region and you'd like to
stop by for a live interview and/or performance, drop me a line and we'll
work something out. Also, if you'd like to send me downloads of your
releases in lieu of actual CD's, that's fine with me, too. Just send me an
email and let me know. Thanks.            

  This year is just about over, and I want to take a moment to reflect on
what's happened. As usual, some good, some bad. We always look towards
the future with the hope that things will get better. It certainly was a good year for music,
and some interesting times here on Secret Music. Most importantly, I
celebrated the 25th anniversary of Secret Music back in June. Not a lot of
hoopla this time around, but it's still quite an achievement. I don't know
if I've got 25 more in me, but I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon.
In fact, there are some things I'm working on to improve things. I'd like
to thank the people that came in for interviews and performances this
year, mainly Bas Broekhuis, Detlef Keller and Mario Schonwalder, Markus
Reuter and Kevin Keller. They were all great people and I'm privileged to
have them on the show. Thanks to everyone who listens in, and especially
to those who donated during our annual pledge drive. It's nice to know
people appreciate what you do. And thanks to the artists and labels for
giving me great music to play. Remember that especially in this day and
age, it helps more than ever to support the artists and labels who work
hard to play the music you love.

  There's a new service out called DAR.fm. which allows you to record
radio shows (like mine). The website has more info. but it's basically a free service much
like a Tivo, which allows you to select and record radio shows for future
listening. Finally something for those of you who aren't around to listen
in on a Sunday morning.

in quite some time, so I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully the world
doesn't end on the 21st, as I'm going to Cape Cod to visit family for the
holidays. I hope everyone has a great holiday season.

  I made it through the recent storm with no real problems. But many others,
including people in my listening area, were affected by the hurricane. My thoughts and
prayers are with them. Please do what you can to help those in need.

  I'd like to tell you about two upcoming shows in the Hudson Valley area that listeners of Secret Music might want to see.

  First, on Saturday, October 20, guitarist Ed Gerhard will be performing at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, NY. Ed is an incredibly talented guitar player and great person, too.   Second, on Thursday, October 25, the band Blackmore's Night will be returning to the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY. Headed by Ritchie Blackmore of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple fame, this band brings that energy to medieval music. I saw them last time they were there and they put on a great show. New Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is a 3700 watt
non-commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the greater
Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on for over 25
years and has a large and devoted audience. The show airs every Sunday
from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more information or to listen in online,

and interesting music to play on my show. If you have something you think

WVKR Pledge Drive

Hi -
  This week is WVKR's annual pledge drive, starting Tuesday, 9/11 and going until Monday, 9/17. WVKR is a non-commercial station which gets some funding from the college, but relies on listener support to help pay the bills and ensure that things run smoothly. Once a year they have an annual pledge drive where listeners call in to make pledges. My portion of the pledge drive will occur on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 9AM to 12 noon. I hope many of you will call in to show your support for commercial free independent radio in the Hudson Valley. I'll have T-shirts, CD's and other goodies in exchange for your kind donations.   Thanks to Markus Reuter who took time out of his busy schedule to come
up to the WVKR studios and talk about his music. He's a great guy and I got to see a
great show when he played locally with the group Stick Men, featuring
Markus, Tony Levin and Pat Mastellato. I also got to see Loren Dent
perform with Alexander Turnquist and I'm eagerly awaiting their upcoming
album.     

  The big news this time is that WVKR's annual fundraiser will be taking
place from September 11 to September 17. We rely on listener contributions to pay the
bills and stay on the air. If you'd like to help, send me something I can

guy in his early 20's who died in a car accident a few days ago. The article
mentioned his interest in music, so I went looking. I found his Soundcloud
page with a few songs there. He had an interest in various types of electronic
music. I played one of his pieces to honor his memory.
