Secret Music News, January 2018

Hi -

  Sorry about the delay in sending this. Winter is not my time of year,
and it's been abnormally busy for me. So I'm trying to play catchup when I'm not hibernating. It's
a changing world, especially in the music industry. As it gets easier for
people to compose and release music, it gets harder for people to make
money from it. More and more it's becoming apparent that the real reason
one makes music, or any art form for that matter, is because it's driven
by passion.

  And perhaps that's the point. In today's world, passion is something we
need. I'm reminded of the story of Simon Jeffes and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, He dreamed of
a dystopian world where everything was gray and soulless. But there was a
bar with bright lights and music and people smiling and enjoying
themselves. And he resolved to compose the music for the band in that bar.
Thus became the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. I'm not saying this is a gray and
soulless world, far from it. But a little more passion, a little more joy,
are certainly welcome. That's what drives you to create music, and that's
what drives me to play it. Not always the easiest thing for either of us,
but it's worth the effort.

  I've gotten some great new music lately, and I always appreciate it. If
you've got something new you'd like me to hear, just let me know. CD's are always appreciated,
but downloads are fine and dandy as well. Whichever you prefer.

  No scheduled interviews or performances at the moment, but I'm always
looking. If you're in the area on a Sunday morning, let me know and we'll work something out.
