Secret Music News, December 2016

Hi -

  This has been a busy month for me. I had the pleasure of hosting a live
in studio concert with Centrozoon on November 20. Markus Reuter and Bernhard Wostheinrich
are great musicians and great people, too. And on November 27, I got the
chance to interview one of my idols and early influences, Paul Winter. He
was a very nice guy and it was a true privilege to get to meet him.

  One other important event is coming up on Sunday, December 11. 40 years
ago, WVKR started broadcasting as an FM station. So now I get to host a 40th
anniversary celebration for the radio station that has allowed me to do
all these crazy things over the years. I'm looking forward to talking to
some old friends again.

  Most of you know me at this point. but there's a few that might not. My
name is Scott Raymond, and for those of you who don't know me, I'm a New
Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is a 3700 watt
non-commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the greater
Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on for over 29
years and has a large and devoted audience. The show airs every Sunday
from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more information or to listen in online,
check out our website at www.wvkr.org.           

  I'm always looking for new and interesting music to play. If you have
something you think I'd be interested in, feel free to send it to the address below. I'm perfectly
fine with downloads instead of CD's, especially for all you overseas
people who pay large sums of money to mail things here to the states.
Don't get me wrong. I love CD's and love to see nice packaging. But I know
what it costs to mail such things, too. It's up to you. I usually prefer
high quality MP3's, though I can accept other formats if necessary. Just
send me an email for more info. At least half of what I play these days
comes to me through downloads. Thanks.

Secret Music News, November 2016

Hi -

  Things have been busy this past month, but in a good way. Started a new
job, got some time off and went to Philadelphia to meet people and take pictures. Got to
see Harrison McKay of the Tangent Project and Hotel Neon in concert, which
was a lot of fun. Also got to talk to Chuck Van Zyl of Star's End fame.
He's a great guy and incredibly gracious person.

  Fall is here, and there are several live concerts and events of interest
to people in the Hudson Valley area. Centrozoon will be playing at Quinn's in Beacon on
11/13, and Ben Neill and Mimi Goese will be playing at the Towne Crier in
Beacon on 11/17. Centrozoon will also be performing live on my show on
11/20. And I'm very excited about an upcoming live interview with Paul
Winter on my show on 11/27.

Centrozoon - Live at Quinn's in Beacon, Sunday, 11/13/2016, 8PM
  Centrozoon is an electronic music group from Europe featuring Bernhard Wostheinrich and Markus Reuter. Sometimes spacy, sometimes more experimental. They're celebrating their 20th anniversary by touring the northeast US. Opening for them will be local musician David Rothenberg. A rare event and a must see for electronic music fans. Ben Neill & Mimi Goese -Live at the Towne Crier Cafe in Beacon, Thursday, 11/17/2016, 7:30 PM
  Ben Neill is a composer and inventor of the mutantrumpet, which has to be seen to be understood. Mimi Goese is a vocalist, most notably of the band Hugo Largo. This is a free performance entitled Fathom: Hudson River Data as Music. The music is based on real time data taken on the Hudson River. This should be an interesting show. Here's a link:

Paul Winter - Winter Solstice concert live at the Cathedral of St.John the Divine in NYC, 12/15, 12/16, and 12/17, 2016.
  This is the 37th Winter Solstice show that Paul Winter has produced at the Cathedral of St.John the Divine. I've been a few times, and it's a great show of music, dance and visuals in the largest cathedral in NYC. This concert will feature Gary Brooker (of Procul Harum fame) and is a tribute to George Martin, who produced Paul's Icarus album. I highly recommend this.  Here's a link:

  Sorry for taking so long to write. Things have been busy on this end.Too
much to do and not enough time, it seems. I'd like to thank everyone who made the annual WVKR
pledge drive a success. Thanks to the musicians who sent me stuff to give
away, thanks to the people who answered the phones, and especial thanks to
the people who called in to donate. I raised over $800 this year, and I'm
very grateful. It's the people who keep me going after all these years.
Thanks to everyone.

  Fall is here, and there are several live concerts coming to the area
that you may see me at. In this day and age of downloading and streaming music, the live concert
experience is something that has to be seen to be fully understood. I hope
that musicians will continue to tour and that people will continue to
support them.

Secret Music News, August 2016

Hi -

  Two things of note this month. First of all, I'm glad to welcome back
guitarist extraordinare Markus Reuter to my show on Sunday, August 7 for a live interview and
performance. Not only is he a talented musician, but he's a wonderful
person too. I've interviewed him before, but this will be his first time
playing live for my listeners. I hope everyone will get a chance to listen
in. Also, coming in September (right after Labor Day) is the annual WVKR
pledge drive. WVKR is a non-commercial radio station that survives because
of donations from our kind listeners. And it's always amazing to me to
know that not only do people enjoy the show, but they enjoy it enough to
give us money to keep it going. If any of you musician/label types would
like to help, consider sending something that can be used as a premium for
their donations. CD's, T-shirts, download codes, etc. Anything is helpful.

  Most of you know me at this point. but there's a few that might not. My
name is Scott Raymond, and for those of you who don't know me, I'm a New
Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is a 3700 watt
non-commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the greater
Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on for over 29
years and has a large and devoted audience. The show airs every Sunday
from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more information or to listen in online,

  I'm always looking for new and interesting music to play. If you have
something you think I'd be interested in, feel free to send it to the address below. I'm perfectly
fine with downloads instead of CD's, especially for all you overseas
people who pay large sums of money to mail things here to the states.
Don't get me wrong. I love CD's and love to see nice packaging. But I know
what it costs to mail such things, too. It's up to you. I usually prefer
high quality MP3's, though I can accept other formats if necessary. Just

Secret Music News, June 2016

Hi -

  This month I celebrated my 29th anniversary with WVKR. Hard to imagine
it's lasted that long. It started out as a summer replacement show, and somehow managed to
make it last this long. After all this time I find that what really
matters isn't so much the music, but the people. I've heard thousands of
albums. And that's good, but it's the people who make it memorable. The
people who make the music, the people at the record labels, and mostly the
people who listen to me play strange music week after week. I couldn't
have lasted this long without all of you. Now starts the countdown to my
30th anniversary, coming next June. I'd like to do something special for
the occasion. A live interview/performance or two, and I'm thinking of a
compilation album. I'm open to ideas, and welcome your input. Anyone who
wants to help is greatly appreciated.

  Most of you know me at this point. but there's a few that might not. My
name is Scott Raymond, and for those of you who don't know me, I'm a New
Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is a 3700 watt
non-commercial station broadcasting from Vassar College to the greater
Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music", has been on for over 28
years and has a large and devoted audience. The show airs every Sunday
from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more information or to listen in online,

  I'm always looking for new and interesting music to play. If you have
something you think I'd be interested in, feel free to send it to the address below. I'm perfectly
fine with downloads instead of CD's, especially for all you overseas
people who pay large sums of money to mail things here to the states.
Don't get me wrong. I love CD's and love to see nice packaging. But I know
what it costs to mail such things, too. It's up to you. I usually prefer
high quality MP3's, though I can accept other formats if necessary. Just
send me an email for more info. At least half of what I play these days
comes to me through downloads. Thanks.
