Hi -

  Not much new going on here. It's getting colder, and the year is almost over.
No recent concerts, but I'll likely be visiting Cape Cod for the holidays if anyone
around wants to say hello. It's been a good year for music and a good year
overall.  

  I've gotten some great new music lately, and I always appreciate it. If
you've got something new you'd like me to hear, just let me know. CD's
are always appreciated, but downloads are fine and dandy as well. Whichever you prefer.

  No scheduled interviews or performances at the moment, but I'm always
looking. If you're in the area on a Sunday morning, let me know and we'll work something out.

Secret Music News, November 2017

Hi -

  October is always my favorite month. I was born in October, and I love
the fall colors. I got my first vacation in 3 years last month, and had a lot of fun traveling
through western NY. And I saw some great shows in October, too. I got to
meet not one, but two of my idols. I got to see the legendary Hans-Joachim
Roedelius play live. What an amazing show. And I got to see the Security
Project, a Peter Gabriel band with some stellar musicians whose work I've
featured before, like Trey Gunn and the incredible vocalist Happy Rhodes.

  I've gotten some great new music lately, too. If you've got something
new you'd like me to hear, just let me know. CD's are always appreciated, but downloads are
fine and dandy as well. Whichever you prefer.

Secret Music News, October 2017

Hi -

 September was a good month. Harp guitarist Alex Anderson came in to talk
and play live for us and it was a great time. No other interviews or performances set up
yet, but if you're in the area, let me know and we'll work something out.

  Also, I'll be on vacation in western NY the week of 10/15. If any of you
are from that area and would like to get together for dinner or something, let me know. I'll
be in the Ithaca/Watkins Glen area for a couple of days, then to
Letchworth State Park for a day or two, then the Buffalo/Niagara area for
a day or two, then ending in Rochester for a day or two.

  I've gotten some great new music lately, too. If you've got something
new you'd like me to hear, just let me know. CD's are always appreciated, but downloads are
fine and dandy as well. Whichever you prefer.

  WVKR had its annual pledge drive, and all went well. I don't know the
final total, but I'm told it was a record amount. Which is good, because there's a much needed
renovation of the air studio going on as I speak. Thanks to everyone who
contributed. I really appreciate it.

Secret Music News, September 2017

Hi -

 August featured an interview with local ambient musician Errant Space
(aka Craig). He's a great guy and makes wonderful music. I also got to see him play live along
with Campfire's Edge (aka Nate) and Elektro Art (aka Art Labriola). It was
really nice to see the three of them working together and improvising. On
September 24, harp guitarist Alex Anderson will visit to talk and play
live for us. I'm always open to artists who want to come in to talk and/or
play live. Just drop me a line and we'll work something out.

  I've gotten some great new music lately, too. If you've got something
new you'd like me to hear, just let me know. CD's are always appreciated, but downloads are
fine and dandy as well. Whichever you prefer.

  Coming up on September 17 is my portion of WVKR's annual fundraiser. The
station gets part of its funding from Vassar College, but the rest comes from the kind
donations of our listeners. We wouldn't be broadcasting if it weren't for
them. If you'd like to help, that's great. We're always looking for
premiums we can offer in exchange for donations. CD's are always welcome,
but so are T-shirts, downloads and other such goodies. If you have
something you'd like to contribute, please let me know. I really
appreciate it.

Secret Music News, July 2017

Hi -

  Somehow I've made it through 30 years at WVKR-FM. Not sure how I managed
to pull the wool over their eyes for this long, but I'm not complaining. I don't know
if I've got another 30 years in me, but I'm not done yet. Seriously folks,
I'm humbled and flattered that I've made it this far, and the response to
my 30th anniversary show has been overwhelming. The premise was simple:
musicians were to send me unreleased music that I could use on the show.
And rather than target specific artists, I made an open call. I got
responses from all over the world, as well as from several here in the
Hudson Valley. I got responses from people I hadn't heard from in ages,
and even a couple I'd never heard of before (which isn't easy). I had way
more music than could possibly fit in one 3 hour show. And to top it off,
Pete Calandra came up and played some new pieces he'd been working on.
Funny how sometimes the simplest ideas turn out to be the best. I'm
eternally grateful to all the artists who provided me with music for the
show, and special thanks to Pete for coming up to be a part of the
festivities.

  I'm looking for artists who are interested in coming to the station some
Sunday morning for a live interview/performance. I've been a bit lax of late, but I'd like to
change that. If you're in the area or passing through, let me know and
we'll figure something out.

  Time hasn't especially been my friend for a while, but things seem to be
getting better on that front. And I realize that I've also been lax in asking people for new
music to play. Thanks very muchly to those of you that have been sending
me CD's or downloads. But there are others who have new music that I'm
interested in. I'll reach out to some of you individually soon, but if
you've got something new, please let me know. CD's and downloads are fine
with me, whichever is easier for you.

Secret Music Playlist, June 18, 2017

Hi -

  Today was my 30th anniversary show. I started at WVKR on June 17, 1987. 30 years later, I'm still here playing wonderful music. To celebrate, I asked musicians to send me unreleased music that I could use for the occasion. The response was overwhelming. Some were specifically composed for the situation, some were from people I hadn't heard from in years, and a couple were from people I'd never heard of before. And too much to fit into one show, even with extra time. And to top it off, Peter Calandra came up from NYC to play some new improvised pieces for us, and I got to play the world premiere of his new album too. Here's the playlist. If anyone recorded the show, please let me know. Thanks to everyone who listened, thanks to all the people who sent me music to play today, thanks to Peter Calandra for coming in to play live, and thanks most of all to WVKR for putting up with me all these years.
